Mrs. Collie Dickerson's Biography

I grew up in Reidsville, NC and graduated from Rockingham County High School as the class valedictorian.  During high school, I played both tennis and basketball and was an active member of the drama club.  I also spent my summers between the ages of twelve and eighteen playing USTA Tennis.  Upon graduation from high school, I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated with a B.A. in English with honors and highest distinction.  After graduating from UNC-CH, I attended the University of Glasgow in Scotland as a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar.  While in Glasgow, I received my M. Phil with highest honors in Romanticism and the Forms of Modernity (a fancy way of saying a master's degree in nineteenth-century British literature) and traveled throughout Scotland and other areas of Europe as an ambassador of goodwill from the United States.  I still travel abroad as much as possible now.  Upon my return to the United States, I followed in my mom's footsteps and started teaching (even though as a child I had always said I would never be a teacher!).  In spite of my childhood reservations about teaching, it is my passion, and I am now starting my seventh year of teaching at Grimsley High School. I love our school's diverse population and having the opportunity to share my love of literature with my students.  I also had the opportunity to share my love of tennis as the Women's Varsity Tennis Coach until my resignation at the end of the 2012 school year.  Go Whirlies!

On March 31, 2012, I married Spanish teacher, Jade Dickerson (also known as Profe).  We are both really enjoying our first year together as a married couple.

In addition, the 2012-2013 school year has been very exciting for me as I was first named Grimsley High School's Teacher of the Year, then Guilford County's Teacher of the Year, and am currently one of nine regional finalists in the running for the title of North Carolina Teacher of the Year!
