COMMON CORE Starting this school year, North Carolina is implementing the Common Core State Standards, a rigorous set of guidelines for the English Language Arts and mathematics curriculum that will replace the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The Common Core State Standards are designed to help students across the country meet the rising demands of the 21st century global marketplace. North Carolina joins more than 40 other states in adopting these standards, in an effort to give the nation’s K-12 students access to a rigorous education.
