1)  Q What are the Media Center hours?
A
The Media Center is open from 7:45 to 4:45 Monday - Thursday and from 7:45 to 4:15 on Fridays. Sometimes we are closed for faculty meetings and special events, so check for changes when you are making plans.
2)  Q How do I get into the Media Center?
A
The Media Center is open before school, during lunch and after school. During the school day, students will need a note from a teacher to use the Media Center.
3)  Q Do I need a pass to come to the Media Center before and after school?
A
The Media Center is open to all students before and after school. No pass is required.
4)  Q Can I go to the Media Center during my lunch?
A
Yes. All students using the Media Center during the school day must have passes and sign in at the Circulation Desk.
5)  Q How do I look up a book?
A
All computers throughout the school have a link on the desktop labeled Destiny, which is our online catalog. You may search Destiny by book title, an author's name, a subject, a keyword, or conduct a power search to find a book meeting multiple criteria.
6)  Q Can I look at what books are available when I'm on the Internet but not at school?

Yes! Our card catalog is accessible online, click here to get started. Choose the "Catalog" tab to search for books.

7)  Q Where are books about authors?
A
Books about authors are organized by the country of origin. Our organizational system coincides with the literature curriculum: Amercian Authors (AA), British Authors (BA), and World Authors (WA). These books contain biographical information and literary criticism. All of our author collection books are overnight check out only.
8)  Q Do I have to know my library number?
A
Your library number is your school ID number, but we can look up your account by your name as well.
9)  Q How many books can I check out?
A
Students can have up to five items checked out at one time.
10)  Q How long can I keep the books?
A
Books normally check out for a three week period. Reference materials and books used in research projects can only be checked out overnight only for the duration of the assignment. Overnight books can be checked out after 6th period, but must be returned before 1st period the following school day.
11)  Q How many magazines do you have?
A
We subscribe to over 40 magazines, including news, sports, science, art and other topics.
12)  Q Are we allowed to check out magazines?
A
Yes, they can be checked out for two days.
13)  Q Can I donate books to the Media Center?
A
Yes. Books in good condition meeting our collection development guidelines are welcome additions to our Media Center collection. Please call the Media Center for more information. Donated books can have book plates noting the donor or can be donated in honor of another person.
14)  Q Can I print my work from the computers?
A
Yes. Original student work may be printed on our black and white laser printer. We allow limited printing of webpages.
15)  Q Can I volunteer in the Media Center?
A
Yes. We would love your help! Please give us a call and let us know when you are available to help.
16)  Q How do I schedule the Media Center for meetings?
A
Groups interested in scheduling the Media Center for meetings should contact the front office or the Media Center. Meetings after 4:30 must be scheduled through the front office.
17)  Q I love the Media Center. What can I do to become a Media Specialist?
A
You must love to learn, be ready to adapt, and enjoy books and technology. To be a Media Specialist in North Carolina, you need to have a masters degree in Library and Information Science.
