1)  Q Will all freshmen be a part of the academy program?
A
All students entering the ninth grade for the first time will be a part of the freshmen academy.
2)  Q What about students who are repeating the ninth grade?
A
Students that have not been promoted to the tenth grade, based on their credits status, will have classes outside of the academy. The classes will focus on the needs of students repeating the ninth grade.
3)  Q Will freshmen be allowed to take elective courses?
A
Yes, freshmen are assigned to elective courses as their scheduled permits.
4)  Q Will freshmen have classes with the upperclassmen students?
A
Yes, depending on the course. Some elective classes and upper level mathematics course will have both freshmen and upperclassmen. Freshmen level core courses will have only freshmen students.
5)  Q How do I schedule a conference with my child’s teachers?
A
Contact the freshmen counselor, Ms. Bostic, for assistance scheduling a conference with teachers.
6)  Q Can freshmen participate in sports and extracurricular activities?
A
Yes, students are encouraged to become involved in athletics and other activities.
7)  Q How many credits must students have at the end of the school year to be promoted to the tenth grade?
A
Students must obtain six credits to be promoted from ninth to tenth grade. Success in all courses, however, is strongly encouraged in order to stay on track for graduation with their cohort.
8)  Q What are the courses that require students to pass an EOC (End of Course) test?
A
The courses are English I, Algebra I, and Biology. All students are required to pass with a level III or IV before receiving a high school diploma.
