Benchmark Scores
Posted on 05/24/2011 by Christie Murphy Reply to this Message[Reply to this message]
Many parents have asked for an explination of how to interpet their students benchmark scores. Your student recently participated in an End of Course (EOC) benchmark created by Guilford County Schools. The attached sheets show what they’ve learned or haven’t learned during this 4 ½ week period. Benchmarks are an excellent predictor of how students will do on the required EOC for this class. Here’s how to read the sheets: Look under the “Standards Performance” box (the 3rd one down) • Look under the “Points Earned” column o example 1- 8.00/11.00- this means there were 11 questions and your student got 8 of them correct o example 2- 4.00/12.00- 12 questions, and the student got 4 of them correct This is the only section you really need to worry about! The average score for Guilford County was 58.5 The average score for Ragsdale was 59.5% Please contact me at murphyc2@gcsnc.com with any questions or concerns you may have. Thanks so much for your support on this issue.

1st Interims
Posted on 09/13/2010 by Christie Murphy Reply to this Message[Reply to this message]
Dear Parents- As first interims are sent home I always post a message to alleviate any concerns some parents might have. The first interim only includes 1 test grade. As you know, test grades count for 50% of their overall grade. You might also remember that the first test from a new teacher can be difficult. Normally students do not do as well on the first test compared to subsequent tests. Also, the reading quizzes that we do in honors are an art. It normally takes students a couple of quizzes to find the common theme or pattern. Once this is accomplished they tend to excel at them. Please bear these things in mind when looking at the first interim, they are a big top heavy and might not be a good reflection of your students progress. Also, please remember grades can be accessed by parents daily. I put in grades every Friday for your review. Thanks C Murphy
