Welcome back to school.  This school year is the last year the colleges will see before you apply next Fall.  With this in mind, do your very best in your classes, get involved in extracurricular activities, and volunteer in the community.


If you are planning on attending a four year college it is imperative that you take either the SAT and/or the ACT this year.  Below are the dates - pay close attention to deadlines.

Summer Ventures in Math and Science

SVSM is a state-supported initiative at NO program costs for participants.  Selected students participate in a rigorous, four-week academic program intended to reward and stimulate students who have already demonstrated their commitment to academic growth and development in science and mathematics.  SVSM continues to attract North Carolina's most motivated and academically prepared students.  The average participant unweighted GPA for 2009 was 3.86.  A promotional video and application can be obtained on line at www.summerventures.org

1.   Discover Scholarship Program awards diverse high school juniors on their exemplary achievements in Leadership and Community Service while overcoming an obstacle. Applications are available at www.discoverfinancial.com/community . Deadline: January 31, 2010
