My name is Mary Ellen Fairchild. I received my B.A. from Guilford College and my Masters in Library Science from UNCG. I have served Stokesdale Elementary since 1979. I am only the second librarian to serve the school, following Annie Mae Lemons. In 1979 the School was small with one class per grade level. One instructional computer served the entire school. Changes were inevitable. With the advice and guidance of the Media/Technology Advisory Committee, the staff and parents the media program has moved forward, striving to fill the needs of students. Each year a collection analysis is done on one area of the nonfiction titles. As funds become available that nonfiction area is reevaluated and new titles are added. The age and condition of our books is considered always. For the primary grades, multiple copies of favorite titles are maintained in the easy collection. To assist and to challenge our upper elementary readers, numerous fiction series such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Guardians of Ga-Hoole, Pendragon, Percy Jackson and 39 Clues. Each year additional ways to identify and assist in filling the needs of students become evident. It's the joy of my job.
