Curriculum Focuses for the Month:

In language arts we are studying CVC word patterns and short vowels.  We are also learning about consonant digraphs, blends and closed syllable types.   Our comprehension skill for this week is looking at how we use prediction to anticipate events of a story.  In writing we are continuing to focus on the use of descriptive words within a sentence.

In math we are focusing on place value.  The children will review numbers 1-100 in terms of what comes before, between and after a number.  The children will learn about this concept through the use of manipulatives.  They will also use skip counting as a means of adding on to find a number.

In social studies we are focusing on citizenship.  We will discuss the character education attribute of responsibility.  We will read books and discuss what responsibility looks like in the classroom.

In science we will begin the unit study of Weather. They will be involved in hands on learning that will be conducted around various experiments of seeing how weather effects our everyday life.

In technology they are working on identifying the parts and functions of the computer. They are also working on programs such as Starfall. They have been working with our technology teacher Mrs. Williams on these skills in our Jefferson lab.
