Chemistry is a challenging and fun course.  The concepts we cover in this class will tie together many previous science concepts and demonstrate the relationships and relevance of things in your every day lives.  To be successful in any chemistry class, students must:

  • Be Present!  Attendance is the number one indicator of school success in every subject! Attendance during labs is very critical to your understanding and lab exercises are difficult to make up due to the amount of time and preparation required.  Chemistry lessons build upon one another.  Students with frequent or excessive absences may find it very difficult to catch up and master the concepts.  Example problems are worked during class and reading someone's notes doesn't give the same practice and experience as being present for the discussion.
  • Come to Class Prepared and Participate in Class!  Study your chemistry routinely and complete all of your assigned work.  BUSY WORK is not assigned - so, there must be some usefulness to any homework assigned or students wouldn't have it!   There are very good study strategies in the back of the blue honors chemistry book.  Late Work - Most work is assigned in advance, so late work is not accepted except in pre-approved extenuating circumstances.  Students that do not turn in their assignments on time will find that things will backlog very quickly and your grade and understanding will suffer drastically.
  • Try Your Best and Communicate!  Sometimes students may feel frustrated because the material is new, just keep trying and it will be mastered and ASK questions and come to help sessions when you need to do so!  There are many chemistry help sessions available to students.  Chemistry problems require practice.  Communication is a must so that teachers can assist you when you are having difficulty.  Feel free to ask questions during class or to e-mail me.  The classroom website also has lots of useful information.

In summary, be in class, complete your assignments on time, practice problems and ask questions and you will find success in chemistry class !
