2012-13 Student Supply List

You will be required to keep a cumulative notebook for chemistry class and there will be periodic notebook checks.

  • Chemistry Notebook (1½ - 2 "three-ring binder); Students may choose to have their chemistry material in the same binder with another class(es).  However, the tabs listed below must be clearly identified in the chemistry section of the notebook.
  • Loose-leaf paper for your notebook
  • Tab Dividers for the notebook (A set of 8).  You will be expected to have labelled tabs for your notebook by the end of the first week of school.  Tab labels are given below if you’d like to get a head start.
  • Pencils/Pens (black/blue) – no colored ink for work turned in to the teacher.  Students may take notes in any color of ink.  Pencil is preferred for work turned in to the teacher!
  • Highlighter(s) or colored pens (other than blue or black) for marking up problems.
  • Calculator.  A scientific calculator with a logarithmic function key is needed.  A graphing calculator is not required for this course.  The calculator you use for math class will work for chemistry class –you do not need an additional one.  Students need to bring their calculators to class.  We do not have class sets of calculators in the chemistry classrooms.
  • USB flash drive is recommended, but not required, and may be needed for some projects.  If the student already has one for other classes, it is not required that a new one is purchased for chemistry.
  • Teacher will request/assign per class period an item such as distilled water, Kleenex, etc. for classroom use.
  • Also, from time to time, teachers may ask for students to bring in household items for lab activities.

**AP Chemistry students also need to purchase

1) 5 Steps to a 5 – AP Chemistry 2012-2013, Dr. John T. Moore & Dr. Richard Langley (sold online and at local bookstores)

2) A bound graph composition book (9.75 X 7.5 in.) for your lab notebook ($2 at Office Depot, Target, etc.). Please do not get the spiral bound graphing notebooks.  The larger size and the wires make it hard to stack and carry them.  You may purchase the graph composition book containing either the 5 squares/inch or 4 squares/inch - but you will probably prefer the 5 squares/inch. A picture is shown below.**
