No specific HW? review your notes/classwork/vocab/grammar. So far French III should be super able to conjugate in present ER - RE - IR + irregular verbs, imperative - near futur - PAST tenses: passe compose and imparfait. We are actually starting Chapter III: La Suisse :) and a new tense ... French III still struggle with writing...we still are looking for some major improvment in this area, studying home at least 10mn per day should be part of HS students routine...

06/04  French books are due!

06/01

I have the pleasure to let you know that ALL   39 French students   passed their year. Therefore they are elligible for French II in HS.

However, French II is a very hard class that require very high foundations in grammar and vocabulary.

Students passing the year with a C or below will NOT have my recommendations. For those students I will recommend to start French I level in High School so they can consolidate their foundations in order to  be better prepare for French II level.

05/31 testing is over. For the end of the year we will go over some presentation about French history and cultural facts. We will at the same time complete a French calendar recording celebrations in France :)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The date for the French End-of-Course Exam has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 23rd.

Due to the large number of students taking the exam, we are in need of proctors to monitor the different  classrooms.  We need an adult present to supervise the students from 2:10 until 3:50 pm.

If you can help proctor the French EOC exam on the 23rd , please let me know before Friday, May 11th (next week).  Your assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

The exam will be administered during the afternoon hours when eighth graders have their encore classes.  Students will be given 90 minutes to take the listening, reading, and writing portions of the exam.  You should have received a letter from Guilford County Schools detailing information about the exam.  I sent a copy home on May 1st. Please ask your eighth grader about it if you have not seen it.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Danielle Brozzi, French teacher

YEAR 2011/2012 WELCOME TO FRANCE and the French class

06/13 I am very happy to let you all know that all French students 8th grade are passing for level II in High School. Although, students who did work with consistency, the entire year, performed very well with an A average in French. For students with lawer grades - C average - high school will not be easy. In fact, instead of half an hour, the classes in High school are usually close to an hour long and double instruction is given by the teacher. Which means for students double the work...Be organize, on task and participating fully to all class activities are not a must but a normal habit if students want to be succefull in the foreign language. I wish plenty of success to all my students hoping that one day they will be able to practice <on live mode> their foreign language somewhere in a French speaking countries or if lucky in Paris. To all of you ENJOY YOUR SUMMER !!! Sincerely, Danielle Brozzi.

04/18  Today interims goes home with all my 8 grade students, this in order for them to realize what is so far their average and what they are missing. Deadline for all missing work, retake quiz or test is Friday April 29!!! tomorrow: anounced Friday a quiz for a test grade : chapter X 2nd section: listening - reading and writing.

04/15  IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT FRENCH FINAL EXAM:

Dear parents,

Yesterday was a general meeting for all World Language teachers down town. Today, I shared what I have learned. What is coming up for the Final French exam in May? First of all, the good news is that we are exactly where we are suppose to be with the instruction. I advised my students that next week on Tuesday we will have the last instructionnal quiz: Chapter X 2nd section that will count as a Test grade. Coming back after Spring break we will start a major review for the exam. The exam will take place between May 9 to June 9. We do not know when it will exactly take place and how, Mrs Sullivan (Spanish teacher) and myself need to organize this with the administration. The French exam will be on following areas :

 listening/reading/grammar/writing/speaking.

I encourage all students to be in my class every single day, prepare and ready to (re)learn since this is the most important part that can help them to be successful, not only for the exam but for next year in High School. I expect all my students to come every day on time, with a good spirit, their book, paper, pencil AND most important their verb/grammar foldable that we did create all year long.

REVIEW

1) all vocabulary (meaning/spelling/correct pronunciation) form the very begining of French (7+8 grade) I will quiz students through <une dictee> which I think is the best way to provide, listening, understanding and apply grammar @ the same time.

2) We will review regular and irregular verbs (with correct pronunciation) and students will be quizzed on a regular basis.

3) We will continue to practice writing in different tenses : present - futur - past.  It is important for students to be able to write in those different tense and understand when to use them. Students will  be quiz as well on different tense.

4) Every single day I will introduce some speaking practice, asking questions in French related to the vocab/chapter that we are reviewing, expecting students to understand as well as answering me in French the correct way. I will correct their mistake as we go on if necessary.

I count on your support making sure that your daughter/son can have a wonderfull future. Any question/comment please e-mail me any time.   Danielle Brozzi

It is very important for students to have good study habits. Studying 5/10 mn per day for French is essential to be successful. Going to wwww.digitaldialects.com can help tremendously. There is many things to learn by heart and all little chunks of instruction is making each student able to get higher on the French scale. Getting behind is making it hard on students. Catching up is not so easy, not only for French but for any foreign language. Missing/retake quiz/test for French class is every WEDNESDAY after school from 3:45 to 4:30. Or by appointement ONLY during lunch time or after school. About this, NWMS World Language departement (Lisha Sullivan Spanish teacher and myself) will handout some new information for the second semester.

REMINDERS Any foreign language class is an academic class that gives credit for High School. Mme Brozzi' s syllabus specify to study French 5/10mn a day (HW or no HW). Students need to study on a regular basis to be successful. The vocabulary is the most important part of a language. No vocab = no language learned.  Therefore, students need to understand that it is their responsability to study, be on task and understand that every single work count: classwork, homework, listening activity, grammar notes, in order to acquire a foreign language. Students of 8 grade will have a major exam that will take place the month of May 2011. It is my responsability to bring them there as well as theirs. Today we will create our <chiffres> foldable - 1 to 1000. Tomorrow we will have our first <race for a star> activity. Students will use their ABC foldable, guessing how to spell several French words that I will say out loud + numbers. In this class, students are up to date with French sounds. I am looking for a great year.

09/08

I was absent today for Professionnal Development with Guilford County School. Students completed some assignments reading a text in French. I will try to have the same sub when I need to be absent, she did a fantastic job and speaks French.
