Good evening Johnson Street Global Studies Families. This is Mr. Vernon with a few important reminders for the upcoming week.
Congratulations to all of our students who ran in the GO FAR race last Saturday. It is always exciting to see so many of our students, staff, and parents, who have trained diligently, finish the race. I have also included a link to our weekly email that celebrates that success. Congratulations to each of you!!!
This year, students in third through eighth grades will take the traditional End-of-Grade, or EOG, tests in English Language Arts and math. Fifth and eighth graders will also take a science EOG. Our EOGs will take place June 11th and 12th.
This year, Guilford County Schools, as well as all other districts in North Carolina, moved to the new Common Core standards. That means our teachers – and all our staff – have been working to develop new lessons that go along with the new standards.
Since the tests are new, we won’t have the final scores until October. Because of the delay, the scores will not be used in the decision to promote students to the next grade. However, the state will look at the scores to help measure how effective our teachers are, so all students should do their best.
Please call us at the school if you have any questions and/or concerns.
As always, we look forward to another wonderful week at Johnson Street.
Go Jaguars!
