Welcome (back) to HPC!
This semester I'll be teaching: Geometry, Foundations of Geometry, and Algebra !!.
This year the curriculum for each course will be different, because North Carolina has adopted the Common Core Standards. This means that students in Geometry in every state will be learning the same material. This also means that the students will be using more problem solving skills and doing more real world applications problems.
In Math, you have to do LAP's. I don't mean actually run around the track. However, it stands for Listen and Practice! Just like with sports, students have to listen to the instruction and rules, and then practice the concepts in order to do well in Math.
It is extremely important that students are in class everydayand on time! If a student must be absent, he/she should stay after school with me within that week to get the instruction and practice that he/she missed. I do not just hand worksheets to students who missed instruction that they need.
I realize how important a good education is to your child's future, whether he/she plans to go to college, into the military, or into the workforce. I also stress the importance of responsibility, independence, good character, and respect to my students. These traits are relevant in any career that they choose, and will make them a better person in the highly competitive society in which we live. |

This is how we do it!
Your child will have homework every day except Friday! It is extremely important that your child does his/her homework each day. This allows the student to independently practice the concepts covered in class. By doing so, he can determine what he understands as well what he has challenges with. This extra practice is very important because the class pace will move rather quickly.
I will give your child a Homework Stamp Calendar for the quarter (9 weeks). He/she will write his/her homework assignment on the calendar each day. I will collect the calendar each Friday for a weekly Homework grade. |
