A Year Round School With a Learning-Enriched Environment
Hampton operates on a year-round calendar. The students attend 180 days like a traditional school, but have 45-day sessions followed by 15-day breaks during which students are out of school. These breaks occur every quarter. For Hampton Elementary students, school starts in mid-July and ends in June, with a summer break of approximately five to six weeks. At Hampton, we believe that it takes a village to raise a child. To that end, we have partnerships with United Way of Greater Greensboro and its member agencies to positively develop our students through enrichment activities. In addition, Hampton has partnered with North Carolina A&T State University, which provides tutors, interns and student mentors, as well as ongoing professional development for Hampton staff. Hampton utilizes city and county agencies and leaders to help achieve our goals. The community continues to play an important role in the learning-enriched environment of Hampton Elementary.
Extended Learning Environment
Hampton Elementary, through the partnership with N.C. A&T, offers extended learning opportunities for our students. Three days a week, small-group tutoring takes place after school at Hampton with students from the university serving as tutors. Our students are involved in learning math through a program called Pathematics, and they receive reading instruction through participation in a literacy component. Academic Camp will be offered to students who need additional instructional support in reading and math. The camp runs the first week of the fall and spring quarterly breaks. The students attend academic camp as a regular school day, and the classes are limited to small groups.
