Grimsley, James, Stogner Award for Excellence in North Carolina College Tech Prep

The Guilford County College Tech Prep(CTP) Consortium wasrecognized for outstanding accomplishment at the 2007 North CarolinaCTP Conference.  The Consortium consisting of Guilford County Schools,Guilford Technical Community College, and local business partnersreceived the highest award given in each of three categories, Promotion of College Tech Prep, Partnership Excellence, and Overall Program Excellence.The Guilford County Consortium was also the recipient of theseprestigious awards in 2004, 2005, and 2006 and continues to be a leaderin statewide CTP initiatives. 

2004 Governor's Education First Partnership Award

Guilford County College Tech Prep and RedHat Inc., of Raleigh North Carolina , were recipients of the 2004 Governor's Education First Partnership Award fortheir partnership and collaborative efforts in bringing the world's first Red Hat Academy to Guilford County Schools.

2003 Governor's Education First Partnership Award

The Guilford County College Tech PrepInformation Technology Business Council was awarded the 2003 Governor'sEducation First Partnership Award for their collaborative effort to developa strong IT program in Guilford County Schools. The CTP IT program designed byGuilford County Schools and the IT businesses partners emphasizes careerdevelopment and lifelong learning.  GCS offers CTP courses of study inthree of the four nationally identified career cluster IT pathways: networksystems, programming and software development, and interactive media. 

2002 Governor's Business Partnership Award

The Guilford County College Tech Prep Business Partnership is the recipient of a 2002 Governor's Business Partnership Award for the impact of their combination of expertise, volunteer, in-kind, and financial support to publiceducation in North Carolina.

2002 Governor's Award for Excellence in Workforce Development as an "Outstanding Youth Participant"

Dustin Patrick Perdue, a 2002 graduate of Smith High School received this award for his attainment of both the Microsoft Certified Professional and Certified Netware Administrator certifications while enrolled in the College Tech Prep Network Administration course of study at Weaver Education Center. He completed these certifications in spite of the fact that he has been totallyblind since birth.

1999 American School Board Association Magna Award

The Magna Award is a national honor which recognizes programs that raise the bar on student achievement. It is presented by the American School Board Journal (ASBJ), a publication of the National School Board Association, with support from Sodexho Marriott Services. Guilford County Schools' College Tech Prep program won for "Multiplying Student Options through CommunityCollaboration."

1999 American Association of Community Colleges Parnell Tech Prep Award

The Parnell Tech Prep Awards of the American Association of Community Colleges support communities across the nation by honoring and promoting model tech prep programs involving high schools, community colleges, and employers. The awards, now in their eighth year, are given annually to three community colleges and their consortium partners for outstanding achievements in thedevelopment and implementation of tech prep programs.

1999 RJR Outstanding Overall College Tech Prep Reform Effort Award

The Outstanding Overall College Tech Prep Reform Efforts Award is given annually by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to school systems that have been successful in implementing College Tech Prep programs. CTP programs are judged in five categories: curriculum integration, career guidance and student development, collaboration and partnership, marketing ofthe program, and degree of past success.

R. J. Reynolds provides funding for the review process, plaques, and monetaryawards.
