SMITH GOLDEN EAGLES - WHERE FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!!

2012-2013 Academic year

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome to the 1st semester, 2012-13 academic year at Ben L. Smith High School. I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and is prepared to start an exciting new school year.  I anticipate a dynamic, exciting year and I’m looking forward to working with you and your child in conjunction with the classroom teacher. An alliance such as rhis will help to ensure your child's success.

I have high expectations for all students and have included (in this letter) a generalized SCIENCE materials list which can also be viewed on your child's teacher website for specific and detailed classroom material requirements. Please make sure that your child gets the necessary supplies as soon as possible in order to start the school year prepared to work.

Course Syllabi for Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science and Earth/Environmental Science  can be viewed on the Teacher website for those disciplines.  Please remind your child of the importance of keeping and reviewing their class syllabus daily or at least weekly.  It will serve as a course guide/outline which will be followed during the semester, and is an important tool for successful completion of the course.

Required materials (General, and may vary per teacher)

The following materials should be brought to class each day in addition to the assigned textbook:

  1. Three-ring binder notebook (spiral notebooks are not acceptable)
  2. Notebook paper
  3. Pencils and Pens (blue or black ink only; work will not be accepted in any other color ink)
  4. Color pencils or markers (necessary for diagrams and lab work)

Thank you for your immediate attention to this and, again, welcome to the new school year and I look forward to working with you, science classroom teachers, and your child.  Please feel free to contact me if necessary at (336)294-7300 or e-mail me at donnelp@gcsnc.com. You may also reach me by clicking on the Contact Link on my homepage.

Sincerely,
