Band Auditions for 9th grade Scale Requirements: Concert Bb Major Scale Concert Eb Major Scale Each student will be asked to perform a short sight-reading selection during his/her audition. There will also be a brief interview after the audition. Students will need to perform a solo or etude of their choosing. Two copies of the solo or etude must be brought to the audition for the judges to view. Auditions for 10th-12th grade Scale Requirements: Concert Bb Major Scale Concert Eb Major Scale Concert Ab Major Scale Concert F Major Scale Chromatic Scale (slurred) All scales must be performed memorized (either slurred or tongued) and utilize the Central District Bandmaster's Association ranges for high school students. (These same scales are performed for GCS High School All-County Band Auditions and Central District Band auditions.) Each student will be asked to perform a short sight-reading selection during his/her audition. There will also be a brief interview after the audition. Students will need to perform a selection from the solos used for the current year's high school All-County/All-District Band auditions. Two copies of the solo must be brought to the audition for the judges to view.
Guitar Guitar students should: · Be prepared to perform two contrasting pieces of classical guitar music. · Demonstrate ability to read music in first four frets. · Selections should demonstrate technical proficiency and focus on musicality. · Perform C, G, and F scales in one or two octaves. A personal interview will be conducted at the time of audition.
Vocal Music Vocal Music students should: · Be prepared to sing two accompanied, contrasting solo pieces of music, as well as “My Country ‘tis of Thee.” · Provide music for the judges. · Using recorded accompaniment is fine, but it needs to be instrumental only. If students need an accompanist, please drop off sheet music one week before audition. · Be prepared to demonstrate your vocal range. · Expect to sight-read a rhythm and sight-sing a melody. A personal interview will be conducted at the time of audition.
Piano Piano students should: · Be prepared to perform two contrasting pieces of music. Selections should demonstrate technical proficiency and focus on musicality at an intermediate level or higher. One work should be from memory. · Provide a copy of your music for the judges. · Be prepared to demonstrate two major scales (two octaves in parallel motion) of your choice · Be prepared to demonstrate sight-reading. A personal interview will be conducted at the time of audition.
Dance Dance students should: · Be prepared to participate in a 90-minute technique class. The first 45 minutes of the class will concentrate on ballet technique. It will include both barre and center work. The last 45 minutes will focus on modern technique. · Be prepared to perform the class combinations in small groups. Dance Audition Attire: Girls--leotard, tights (without feet), ballet shoes, water bottle. Boys—Black men’s tights, white or black t-shirt, and ballet slippers NO warmers, shorts, t-shirts or skirts will be allowed during the audition classes. A personal interview will be conducted at the time of audition.
Strings Strings students should: · Solo or etude (student’s choice). Provide two copies at audition for the judges. · One Major 2 octave scale and arpeggio (student’s choice)—Basses may play one octave. · One Melodic Minor 2 octave scale and arpeggio (student’s choice).Basses may play one octave. · Sight-reading A personal interview will be conducted at the audition
Art Art students should: · Bring a portfolio of a minimum of 6 pieces including the following: One should show use of color, one should show use of value, one should be a person. Ø 2 drawings of objects or scenes from direct observations (not from magazines) Ø 2 linear perspective drawings (a 1 point and a 2 point) Ø 2 creative drawings, sculptures (photograph of sculptural work is acceptable) or paintings (cartoon work should be limited to 1piece and does not count as figural work) · Be prepared to draw a still life. Paper and pencils will be available in the art room. A personal interview will be conducted at the time of portfolio review.
