![]() Third Graders Win Math Madness Finale! Lifting students' spirits as they prepare for the End-of Grade tests was the order of the day as Ms. Walters sang her own version of "I Will Survive," Dr. Bethea gave a rousing pep talk, and Ms. Nelson led a group of grade 3-5 girls in a few cheers. Dr. Bethea conducted an "applause a meter" to determine which students showed school spirit by wearing the most blue and white. The best surprise came at the end when the Northeast High drumline made a stirring entrance down the middle of the gym, accompanied by wildly cheering students. The success of Madison's Prep Rally is already evident in the reports from staff and students that they feel much less stress this year as we enter our testing season. Family Fun at Madison's Spring Book Fair |
![]() Thanks to the generous support of Madison families and friends, the Spring Book Fair was a winner with almost $2600.00 in sales. We kicked-off the sale with our Book Character Contest and Parade and ended it with a surprise visit from our mystery guest, "Lady Bethea." With a pink flip hairdo and sparkly sunglasses, the glamorous Lady Bethea sashayed through Madison's halls dazzling everyone she met!
A successful book fair requires the support of many people. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time including parents and grand-parents, Sherry Gordon, Ashley Rudd, Tonya Moore, Scarlett Arny, Jamie Christmas, Julie Spencer, Keesha Lee, Rosie Donahue, and Louise Vaughn and, also, staff members, Karen Weaver, Suzanne Kasper, and Earlene DeShields. Thank you, also, to the PTA and hospitality chairperson, Tonya Moore, for sponsoring and hosting the Doughnuts for Dad event. |

Book Character Contest and Parade Kicks-Off Spring Book Fair ![]() |
![]() Madison kicked off the spring Book Fair with a Book Character Contest and Parade on Friday, March 30, 2012. From the timeless children's classic Peter Pan to the timely bestseller The Hunger Games, Madison students covered the wide spectrum of children's literature, reminding us all of the inspiration to be found in books. The First Place Winner and recipient of a ten dollar gift certificate to the book fair was Luke from Ms. McDougle's class. Luke came as Peter Pan. Madison's students did such a terrific job with their costumes that our judges named seven runners-up, three from grades K-2 and four from grades 3-5, all of whom received a book from the fair as their prize. Grades K-2 runners-up included, from Ms. White's class, Kathryn as Dorothy; from Ms. McDougle's class, Riley as the Cat in the Hat; and from Ms. Sigmon's class, Maddie as Pippi Longstocking. Grades 3-5 runners-up included three from Ms. Summers' class, Logan as Fancy Nancy, Cassidy as Anne Frank, and Zion as the Cat in the Hat, and from Ms. Arnold's class, Bayley as Katniss from The Hunger Games. Thank you to all the students and staff members who dressed up as book characters. You contributed to the fun and spirit of the day. And, a million thanks to our illustrious judges, Tammie Gruer, GCS district media specialist, and Carolyn Swaim, retired GCS media specialist, for doing an impossible task, identifying the winners from so many wonderful candidates!

Madison's Winter Music Program ![]() |
![]() For the first music program of the year, the Madison community was treated to a musical production of the holiday classic, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." The musical was directed by Madison's new music teacher, Ms. Annelise Chang. Fifth grader Hannah played the lead role of the Grinch, with other featured roles performed by third graders Haley and Hunter. The third, fourth, and fifth grade choruses each performed music from the musical play on the stage. Thank you for the marvelous turnout. Ms. Chang and the students all worked hard to make this program a rousing success! Please mark your calendars for the K-2 spring program, April 19, at 6:30 pm, in the multi-purpose room. |

![]() Scholastic Book Fair The Book Fair was a huge success thanks to the generous support of our Madison families. Sales totaled over $4300.00, and approximately 50 books were donated to Madison teachers for their classrooms. Also, a hardcover copy of “Manners Mash-up: A Goofy Guide to Good Behavior” was donated to the media center in honor of our new principal, Dr. Trina C. Bethea, by our bus drivers: Ms. Jo Ann-Bus 913, Ms. Annette-Bus 808 and Ms. Jasmine-Bus 208. A successful book fair requires the support of many people. Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time including parents, Ashley Rudd, Tonya Moore, Veronica Parker, Terry Daye, Richard Babcock, and Louise Vaughn; staff, Karen Weaver, Suzanne Kasper, Corina Campbell, and Tressa Digiorgio; and community members, Kaitlynn Anderson and Miranda Pickerell. And, many thanks to Tonya Moore and the PTA for sponsoring and hosting Muffins for Mom and also for her volunteers, Tracey McClure and Christopher Moore. Finally, the largest measure of our fair’s success is the knowledge that approximately 450 new books were purchased and put into the hands of children. |

PTA School Store - Grand Opening ![]() |
![]() Business was booming at the grand opening of the PTA School Store on Friday, October 28, 2011. Students stood in line to enter a store jam-packed with tempting wares. Our new Positive Behavior Program allowed students the opportunity to earn Mustang Money to spend at the store. Judging by the amount of "money" spent, there has been a lot of good behavior at Madison in the past month! We hope to continue this program throughout the remainder of the school year and need parents to donate small items to the store. We're looking for fun items like games or magic tricks, as well as practical items like erasers or water bottles. Thank you, PTA parents, for all your hard work on our School Store. We appreciate your support! |
