Volunteer Opportunities at Peeler! WE NEED YOU! Peeler is proud of its outstanding Family Involvement and this is a fundamental piece of what makes our school so special. Last year we had over 3,000 volunteer hours! Please look at the following list and see what area you would like to volunteer during the 2012-2013 school year: Open Hearts, Healthy Hearts Walk-a-thon (Fall Donation Drive) Contact Persons: Susan Burns and Jessica Naessig Date: September28 We need a lot of volunteers to make this drive a success – set up; healthy snack donations; cheerleaders; lap counters, and clean up! 5th Annual Peeler Parent Play Date Contact Persons: Heather Moore and Angie Roberson Date: November 2 We’ve had over 200 people come every year!!! Dinner is served; children depart to watch a fabulous movie while parents have some "down time" to engage in activities such as yoga, African drumming, and a craft for the school and talk time with our principal. Book Fair Contact Persons:Noriko Dailey and Keri Key Dates: November 27-30 This is an exciting time of reading at Peeler! We need volunteers to help with set up/break down, participate in various shifts throughout the week during book sale, assist children in making a wish list, and other duties. Pizza Supper Contact Person:Keri Key Date: November 27 This is another opportunity of fellowship and fun in our Peeler community. We need groups of families to help with set up/break down, assist in serving pizza and sides and final clean up. Cookie Dough Distribution Contact Person: Jen Worrells Date: Mid December This huge fundraiser comes with buckets and buckets of cookies!!! On the delivery day, we get in hundreds of buckets of cookie dough and we need a volunteer crew to help fill orders. Distribution is conducted in one afternoon. This is an enormous undertaking and we need all the helping hands help we can get. Silent Auction/Raffle/ Class Baskets Contact Persons: Robin Mykytyn and Jane Davis Date: May 10, 2013 This big fund raiser takes place at our annual Spring Fling. We need groups of families to engage in soliciting local businesses for donations. On the day of event, we need volunteer help with organizing layout, setting up and cleaning up. Staff Appreciation Week Contact Persons: Ayana Kollock Date: Early May 2013 Help remind our staff how much they are loved and appreciated! This is a week long event that organizes different activities / small gifts for our amazing staff. YEAR ROUND OPPORTUNITIES Fit Friday (Family Dances)! Contact Person:Peter Martinek-Jenne Dates: TBD These events are a time to let your hair down and dance. Volunteer help is usually in the areas of providing refreshments and music. Put on your dancing shoes and also help organize Friday after school "fit" activities, like football and yoga! Hospitality/Staff Appreciation Contact Person:TBD This committee helps coordinate lunches and various celebrations for teachers and staff throughout the year. Peeler Post Writers We are searching for someone from each classroom to make Peeler post submissions about all the exciting things happening in that specific classroom. Let’s make our classrooms shine. Peeler Post Copying Contact Person:Katie Caudle It is hot off the presses!! Every Thursday morning at 8, we need volunteers to help copy, fold, and distribute the weekly PTA newsletter. Garden Crew Contact Person:Mika Cohen-Jones and Erin Fowler Have a green thumb? Our gardens need year round maintenance-watering, weeding, planting and harvesting! Tutoring Contact Person:TBD Our children need tutoring for everything from math to science to reading and writing! Reflections Contact Person:Keri Key Being a part of this committee would involve promoting this arts competition, gathering artwork, preparing artwork and paperwork for county level; hanging artwork in cultural center, removing artwork, communicating with county level, and preparing an awards ceremony for Peeler participants! Media Center Contact Person:Noriko Dailey Our librarian needs your help shelving books and helping to keep our grand media center organized. We are looking for volunteers in the early afternoons if possible. Cultural Arts Contact Persons:Cheryl Stevens We are always looking for new plays, presentations and other performing arts displays that will intrigue our children and brighten their creativity! We also need help from families on performance days to help set up and make sure performers have what they need. Grant Writing Contact Person:Mary Bryan - Stewart Assists PTA board members and staff with researching classroom/educational projects, cultural arts events, etc. Parent Partners Contact Person:Jane Davis This committee helps to connect new families to the Peeler community with older families. It is a good resource for families who may be unfamiliar with the many diverse opportunities and experiences within our school. We have a Peeler Partner Picnic coming up on September 21st and could use your help! Men’s Group Contact Person:Richard Dailey Men's Group is a group of fathers and adult male relatives of Peeler students who are committed to enhancing the educational experience of Peeler students through volunteer work. There are opportunities to participate in Saturday morning work days, help clean the playgrounds on Monday morning, help fix bicycles, paint, fix broken equipment and help with Spring Fling, our annual cookout in late May. Publicity / Market / Magnet Fair Contact Person:Mike Stuhler This group would coordinate parents and families to stuff magnet fair envelopes, coordinate magnet tour guides, and schedule parent shifts at the magnet fair.
