American Education Week Proclamation
November 13-19, 2011
WHEREAS, the community of Guilford County cares about children and their future; and,
WHEREAS, public schools are the backbone of our democracy, providing young people with the tools they need to maintain our nation’s precious values of freedom, civility and equality; and,
WHEREAS, by equipping young Americans with both practical skills and broader intellectual abilities, schools give them hope for, and access to, a productive future; and,
WHEREAS, education employees, be they substitute teachers, custodians, teachers, bus drivers, administrators, school counselors, social workers, maintenance workers, secretaries, librarians or others too numerous to list, work tirelessly to serve our children and communities with care and
WHEREAS, schools are community linchpins, bringing together adults and children, educators and volunteers, business leaders, and elected officials in a common enterprise; and,
THEREFORE, we, the Guilford County Board of Education and Guilford County Association of Educators, hereby recognize November 13-19, 2011 as American Education Week and herald the tagline, Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility. We encourage all citizens of Guilford County to visit local schools during the national celebration.
