| Guilford County Board of Education Regular Meeting April 28, 2011 | To: | Members, Board of Education | From: | Maurice O. Green, Superintendent Nora Carr, Chief of Staff | Date: | April 25, 2011 | RE: | Ragsdale High Gets Theater Makeover Thanks to Local Foundation | | At its April 28, 2011 meeting, the Board of Education will recognize Sam Tucker and Terry Weatherford of the VF Jeanswear and the Blue Bell Foundation for their grant award to Ragsdale High’s drama department. Audience members who attended the spring performance of “Hairspray” at Ragsdale High likely noticed the theatre’s new look. Thanks to a grant of $20,000 from VF Jeanswear and the Blue Bell Foundation, the stage is now dressed with a new set of curtains from Stage Decoration and Supplies, a local company. Tucker, a Ragsdale parent and Blue Bell Foundation administrator, says the school’s drama teacher Susan Reinecke made a convincing case for the grant. “She showed passion for what was clearly a demonstrated and substantial need, and we were glad to be able to help,” he said. The funding covered the cost and installation of the new fireproof draperies as well as functional curtain tracks. | | | | |
