| At its November 9, 2010 meeting, the Board of Education will recognize Sandy Bruinsma, a volunteer at Monticello Brown Summit Elementary, as the Guilford County Schools (GCS) volunteer of the Month for November, 2010. Visit the media center at Monticello Brown Summit, and more than likely you’ll find Sandy Bruinsma there, working on one of many projects. Ms. Bruinsma has volunteered in the Monticello Brown Summit library for the past two years. When she’s not in the library, you can find her in one of her two children’s classrooms or working as the treasurer of the school’s PTA. According to Principal Benita Lawrence, Ms. Bruinsma’s expertise with technology has helped the school get up to speed with new curriculum programming and software. She researches websites to locate lesson plans and ideas to help teachers implement new tools. She is a quick study, willing to help with any project, and she has been instrumental in helping the school’s new media specialist learn about the school. When school was out for the summer, Ms. Bruinsma continued to volunteer her time by closing out the library for the year and helping to get everyone ready for back to school. For her positive attitude, willingness to serve and her priceless contribution to the students and staff at Monticello Brown Summit, we are proud to name Ms. Sandy Bruinsma as the Guilford County Schools Volunteer of the Month for November. As Volunteer of the Month, an American Express representative surprised Ms. Bruinsma with a gift bag and $25 gift card. In addition, the Board of Education will recognize Ms. Bruinsma at its November 9 meeting. Her photo will hang at Monticello Brown Summit Elementary, as well as the district’s central offices. |
