| Guilford County Board of Education July 13, 2010 | To: | Members, Board of Education | From: | Maurice O. Green, Superintendent Nora Carr, Chief of Staff | Date: | July 9, 2010 | RE: | High Point Library Donates Books to Oak Ridge Elementary | | During the 2009-10 school year, students and staff at Oak Ridge Elementary were separated and moved to several locations while maintenance was conducted to the school. Many items could not be taken along, and students housed at Oak Ridge Military Academy did not have immediate access to books. Kem Ellis and Jim Zola of the High Point Public Library coordinated with the school to lend a variety of books to classrooms. Zola gathered about 400 fiction and non-fiction books, sorted them by grade level and created a special account for Oak Ridge Elementary. The books were then put into rolling tubs so teachers could easily trade the collections around. Seeing a need, the High Point Public Library worked together with the school to ensure that students were able to continue their love of reading. | | | | |
