Beginning another year of school is exciting for students, parents and teachers! I feel fortunate to work in a school community that is so supportive of our school. We love seeing parents on our campus, whether volunteering with our fantastic PTSA or just stopping in to eat lunch with your child. This is my 10th year working at SEMS and I enjoy working with middle school students. At Southeast Middle School, our vision is to provide each student a diverse education in a safe, supportive environment that promotes self-discipline, motivation, and excellence in learning. We are committed to building an environment where students show respect, exercise integrity, maintain self-control and seek excellence.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood (K-6) and Reading (K-12) from Western Carolina University. After many years as a classroom teacher and reading specialist, I finished my MSA degree at UNC-G as a Principal's Fellow. In May of 2012, I finished the Educational Specialist degree and I am currently working on a dissertation for my doctoral degree. I do enjoy being a continual learner.
I have been married for 28 years to a wonderful husband, Ron, and we have 3 children. The oldest, Jeremy, is a Kiowa pilot and a 1st Lt. in the Army. His wife Stephanie teaches middle school in Cumberland County and they have a son, Conner, my first grandchild, who was born in March of this year. My husband and I love being grandparents! My daughter Megan is a graduate of UNC-W and married her high school sweetheart in May of this year. My youngest, Josh, graduated from SEHS in 2011 and is in his second year of attending the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. We love spending time with family and also enjoy camping, hiking and the outdoors.
I desire to see all students at SEMS grow academically and in character in order to meet their potential to become college and career-ready. Please let me know if you have questions/concerns at any time during the year and thanks for entrusting your students to our staff this school year.
