International Baccalaureate World School Primary Years Programme |
![]() The goal of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme is to develop learners who become inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and risk-takers who are knowledgeable, principled, caring, open-minded and well-balanced. ![]() Graphic from http://www.ibo.org The Primary Years Programme (PYP) emphasizes internationalism and identifies what students from all cultures should learn in six subject areas: languages, social studies, mathematics, science and technology, the arts, and personal, social and physical education. The programme was developed by educators from around the world. Falkener uses the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the Guilford County curriculum; however, teachers use the primary Years approach to organize and teach the curriculum through carefully planned and approved units of inquiry. At Falkener, all students receive instruction in Spanish by a full-time Spanish teacher one and one-half hours per week. Instructional strategies are based on International Schools Project "Best Practices." Hands on activities and project based learning emphasize active learning. The importance of technology is emphasized by multiple computers in the classroom and two fully equipped IBM computer labs. All students have the opportunity to be involved in integrated studies, instruction and individualized activities using technology.
