The goal of the Southern Guilford Academy of Education and Advanced Sciences is to build a strong foundation in both education and the sciences. The three strands that make up the academy are agriscience, education and medicine. We are providing students with a safe environment where a rigorous college prepatory curriculum is being taught in all three strands. The academy provides the opportunity to enrich and expand existing programs already in place. It also enables us to reach out across the entire county to find students who have an interest in our programs. The academy is starting its fourth year. If you have any questions contact the academy director Bill Miller at 674-4250 EXT. 556670.

Agriscience Strand

The Agriscience program consists of studies in botany, horticulture, biotechnology and animal science. The students will also have opportunities for landscape construction and independent agriscience advanced studies. This program is well known throughout the county and has received district, state and national recognition. Academy courses include agriscience applications, animal science I,II, horticulture I,II, agriscience advanced studies and horticulture landscape construction.

Education Strand

This strand is being used to develop future teachers for our school system and others around the country. It has the smallest number of students out of the three strands but we hope to continue to add more. All the students in this strand will have an opportunity to be in a classroom setting for hands on experiences. Academy courses include teacher cadet I,II and advanced placement psychology.

Medicine Strand

The growing job opportunities in the medical field spurred the development of this strand. The goal of this program is to show the students the various fields that exist in the world of medicine. Their is a concentration toward sports medicine, nursing and pre-medicine. Selected students in the sports medicine program will have a chance to be trainers for our athletic teams. Local hospitals are already working with our students and more clinical spaces will be added to our campus. Academy courses include health team relations, sports medicine I,II, medical careers I,II and anatomy/physiology.
