Frequently Asked Questions If I join Air Force Junior ROTC, do I have to go into the military? No. There is no obligation to join the military if you participate in JROTC. Should you desire to enter the military after high school, JROTC does provide some advantages including increased money and rank. Additionally, should you desire to go into an ROTC program in college, JROTC also provides some benefits including special looks from scholarship boards. If I go into the military after high school, do I have to go into the Air Force? No. All four military services recognize participation in any branch of high school JROTC. Will I be forced to do pushups or have people yelling at me? No, not in Air Force JROTC. This is a high school program - not the military. We help our students become better citizens regardless of their intentions after high school. We feel that we can give our students the tools needed to be successful in life without yelling and screaming at them. Do I have to be able to run and do pullups? No. While physical fitness is 20 percent of our curriculum, everything is done on an individualized approach. Our goal is help our students improve their personal, overall fitness knowledge and conditioning. The fitness portion of the curriculum includes informational classroom lessons along with fun and interesting outdoor activities. Can I still participate in JROTC activities all year long if I only have JROTC during one semester ? Yes, it's called being in Reserve Status. As a member of the Reserves you can participate in all JROTC activities, including trips, scheduled throughout the year. One requirement during your Reserve Status wil be that you wear the uniform once a month instead of weekly. |
