Students interested in art participate in projects that beautify the school and enrich school events such as the school play, and the Madrigal dinner.

Beta Club - Advisor – Nancy Silvia

This club is honor society based on GPA only.  Sophomore, Junior, and Senior students are invited to join after the 1^st quarter each year.  Students must have a 3.5 un-weighted or a 4.0 weighted GPA to be a member.  National dues are $15.00.  Community service hours are required each quarter to remain a member in good standing.

Film Club/Movie Making Club - Advisor – Gary Bricker

The club’s mission is to work with various software & media in order to build upon the participate’s creative skills.  The chief product of which is to collaborate and work individually or in teams to produce a movie or video of our participant’s choice.

This club will teach building skills for students who intend to go into the business world after high school or college.

Gay Straight Alliance Club - Advisor – Richard Swor

This club is committed to making their school community safe and welcoming to all students regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. We will be concentrating on equality, anti-bullying, providing a community of family for everyone and writing anonymous letters of encouragement to teachers.

Gentleman’s Literature Society - Advisor – David Willoughby

We are a book club for men at NGHS.  We select books of interest to members, read them, and then meet to discuss.  Club began last spring.

Habitat for Humanity - Advisor – Bronwyn Corry

This club plans volunteering events, works on fundraisers, and learns about poverty housing.

This club also works with Habitat of Humanity of Greater Greensboro to help our community build affordable homes for individuals who would not otherwise be able to afford a home.  We raise money to donate affordable housing causes, help with local build days at Habitat sites, and assist with other projects that benefit Habitat of Humanity of Greater Greensboro.

Invisible Children - Advisor – Carmen Salama

This is an organization fighting through social media, short films, and fundraisers to end the use of child soldiers in Joseph Kony’s rebel war.  The organization’s mission is to rebuild damaged villages and lives destroyed by the lord’s resistance army in central and east Africa.  Our club is teaching the youth of Northern Guilford High School to serve their community locally as well as globally.  Through fundraising and tutoring local refugees we are able to better our local community while still spreading the word about invisible children’s mission.  We encourage every student to join Northern’s chapter of the invisible children’s organization so that they may become more socially diverse on an international level.

There are no small feats.  Anything we can do to help better the life of a child would be a huge accomplishment.

National Honor Society - Advisor – Jennifer Buck

Students with a cumulative GPA (from all high school courses) of at least 3.5 unweighted OR 4.0 weighted will receive an application to join this national organization of academic excellence in February of their junior  year .  Please download the Admissions Criteria/Application process document located in document manager in order to view the actual application process. Please pay close attention to the Leadership component of the application and note how the application is scored.  Leadership points are only awarded for roles in which you are directly responsible for directing or motivation your peers (other high school students).

PATH - Advisor- Madison Hester

The PATH Club is a service club that focuses on service projects to support military personnel, local law enforcement , firefighters and their families.  Projects planned for this year include: Camp Corral, Operation Appreciation, meals for local firefighters, Blankets of Honor, and Operation Paperback.  Students can earn service hours by participating in this club and its activities.

Paws Up - Advisor – Jay Simpson

This club informs the general public of many issues regarding animals – animal care, safety, cruelty, and ethics are many of the topics we will approach.  What you can do to make a difference, and spreading the message of animal awareness.  We will have optional volunteer work through Guilford County’s Animal Shelter.

Reading Buddies - Advisor - Kim Freund

Reading Buddies is a program that sends high school tutors to read with  K-5 students at local elementary schools including Northern Elementary, Summerfield Elementary and McNair Elementary.  The high school students are able to choose their own day to go to the elementary school.  As a group, we do not have regular meetings after the initial school assignments are made.

Robotics Team (FRC) - Advisor - Scott Ilkenhons

"Our goal is to field a competitive robot in the 2012 FRC Aggieland Regional Championships at North Carolina A&T State University."

We meet on Thursdays and Fridays weekly from 4-5pm in room 181.

Rugby Club - Coach Scott Ilkenhons

Come be part of the fastest growing sport that spawned Football. All Students are welcome.

Workout and conditioning is Monday in the weight room from 4 -5p. Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 - 5:30p on the front lawn (bring regular tennis shoes on rainy days). Conditioning and training starts week after football ends.

Science Olympiad - Advisors– Dr. Sandra Strubinger and Dwanda Hairston

North Carolina Science Olympiad (NCSO) is a nonprofit organization with the mission to attract and retain the proof of K-12 students entering science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degrees and careers in North Carolina.  Every year the NCSO hosts tournaments on the university, community college, and public school campuses across the state.  These tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that are well balanced between the various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology.

Spanish Club is an organization designed to encourage students to learn more about the cultures of Spanish speaking counties.  Students should expect to participate in learning about various countries and cultural practices by helping with presentations.

Ukulele Club - Advisor – Mrs. Mooney-Flynt

Will meet to play ukuleles as a group and possibly play different venues in the community.

Members meet to share and exchange story ideas and to receive peer editing on works in progress.  Sometimes we will participate in creative writing group activities like Haikubes, the never-ending story, etc.
