Louis Chaney believes in building a positive community by impacting one
student at a time. That's why he shares his gifts with the students of
Jamestown Middle, even though he doesn't have a child at the school. He
teaches children the benefits of leadership and community service
through the Campus Life program, which he oversees.
He
doesn't stop there. He lends an open ear to students who need a
positive role model through the Lunch Buddy program. In addition, he
has a CDL license, and often volunteers to drive activity buses for
field trips and athletic events at no cost.
In
the nomination of Chaney, teacher Gary Gonzalez said, "He makes a huge
difference in the lives of our students and selflessly gives of himself
and his time for the betterment of all at JMS."
As
Volunteer of the Month, American Express officials surprised Chaney
with a gift bag and $25 gift card. In addition, the Board of Education
will recognize Chaney at its Nov. 10 meeting. Chaney's photo will hang
at Jamestown Middle, as well as the district's central offices.
