A draft of the 2009-10 Local Educational Agency (LEA) Improvement Plan
for Guilford County Schools (GCS) is now available on the district's
Web site at http://www.gcsnc.com/programs/lea_improvement/index.htm.
Additionally, a copy of the plan is available for review at each school
in the district
The
LEA Improvement Plan describes what the district will do to help
low-achieving students meet challenging academic achievement standards.
In revising the plan, GCS will consult parents, school staff and
community members.
Parents and community
members have an opportunity to review the plan and provide input until
Friday, Dec. 9. Comments about the plan should be submitted through
e-mail to LEA_ImprovementPlan@gcsnc.com or in writing at schools.
Individuals providing feedback should include their name, school,
street address, city and phone number.
GCS is
revising its plan as it continues in Title I District Improvement. In
accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act, GCS is required to
identify steps to improve student achievement within an improvement
plan because the district missed Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) targets
in reading for multiple years. GCS will be in district improvement
until it meets all target goals in reading in grades three through
five, grades six through eight or high school for two consecutive years.
More information on Title I District Improvement is available here.
