GCS Gift of Giving Teams Announced
| Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 |
Four Seasons Town Centre is once again working with GCS to support
service learning during the holidays. The 15 classrooms or student
groups participating in this year's Gift of Giving program were
recognized at a special ceremony Thursday. Gift of Giving provides $300
grants for students to create service projects that help others in the
community. The student groups will be conducting their projects
through Dec. 21.
Student groups will be completing the following service projects this year:
- Northern Elementary - Adopt five families that have been affected by the economic downturn.
- Aycock Middle - Read "A Christmas Carol" and apply it
in the community by making no-sew fleece for children who are in need
of comfort. Write an essay evaluating the experience.
- Northeast High - Visit Gateway Education Center and play games, read books and interact with the students.
- Southwest Elementary - Purchase socks for the Gift of Warmth through Shoes That Fit.
- Northwest Middle - Donate new shoes to needy families at Doris Henderson Newcomers School.

Burmese refugee families. Work with local families to learn more about
Burmese refugees and educate students, teachers and parents about their
history.
- Welborn Academy of Science and Technology - Create
Beads of Love necklaces, bracelets and key chains for children who deal
with drugs, alcohol and substance abuse in their community.
- Dudley High - Learn about the Great Depression while
volunteering at the Urban Ministry. Purchase gift cards for Dudley High
homeless families.
- Smith High - Invite teen parents to learn skills of
effective parenting. Activities will consist of arts and crafts,
projects, pictures and toys for children.
- Sedgefield Elementary - Work with Pathway Shelter, a local church and PTA to purchase blankets for families at the shelters.
- Kiser Middle - Donate blankets and diapers to Pathways
and Salvation Army families and donate books and educational toys to
the Center of Hope.

coordinating a book exchange program between the school and the Boys
and Girls Club of High Point.
