GCS Celebrates School Psychology Awareness Week
| Wednesday, November 16th, 2011 |
Nov. 16, 2011
Growing up is hard work. The 46 school psychologists employed by Guilford County Schools (GCS) are there to make the job a little bit easier.
Nov. 14-18 has been designated School Psychology Awareness Week by the National Association of School Psychologists to help emphasize the important role they play in students’ lives. School psychologists are called upon to help with special needs evaluations, classroom management strategies, crisis response and Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS), among other things.
This year’s theme is “Every link matters. Make the connection,” which helps reinforce the idea that even one positive relationship can make a difference for a child who is struggling.
“Our psychologists work in conjunction with teachers and administrators to make sure the social and emotional needs of our students are met each and every day,” says Susan Griffin, Exceptional Children’s Executive Director. “They are a vital part of our school community.”
School psychologists, led by Dr. Alexander Tabori, serve every GCS school and participate in at least one district or department committee. Many are nationally certified, and all have a master’s degree and have completed a one-year internship. |
