Guilford Parent Academy Offers Tips on Employment, 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. (Smith High, 2407 S. Holden Road, Greensboro) - The community is invited to learn more about the six areas of wellness and how they contribute toward employability. Participants will learn how to properly identify and deal with stressors in their lives. Participants will also take part in mock interviews and receive lessons in business etiquette and ethics. Thursday, Feb. 9

Northern High Band Teacher to Perform New Composition, 7 p.m. (Reidsville High Auditorium, 1901 S. Park Drive, Reidsville) - Northern High band teacher Ed Kimbrough will conduct a performance of his newest concert band composition, "Excursions," with the Rockingham County All-County Band at Reidsville High. Friday, Feb. 10

Northwood Elementary Students Build Relationships with Seniors at River Landing, 10 a.m. (2025 Sandy Ridge Road, Colfax) - Having recently completed a unit on human relationships, kindergarteners from Northwood Elementary will visit River Landing Retirement Community for some real world practice. As part of their service-learning students will receive music lesson on homemade instruments created by River Landing residents. Penn-Griffin to Celebrate Black History Month, 6:30 p.m. (Penn-Griffin School for the Arts, 825 Washington St., High Point) - Students from Penn-Griffin School for the Arts will perform a showcase of music, theatre, visual arts and dance in celebration of Black History Month. Earlier this year, students spent hours interviewing those who were involved in the 1960 sit-ins in High Point. During the showcase, students will perform short monologues that will send the audience back to those moments in history. Dudley High Holds Performing Arts Showcase for Black History Month, 7 - 9:30 p.m. (The International Civil Rights Center and Museum, 134 S. Elm St., Greensboro) - Dudley High, in collaboration with the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, will hold a performing arts showcase in honor of Black History Month. Dudley alumni will retell the stories of the Civil Rights Era by performing songs and dances inspired by those moments in history. Saturday, Feb.11

Western Student's Play Performed at Fringe Festival, 2 p.m. (Greensboro Cultural Arts Center, 200 N. Davie Street, Greensboro) - Alejandra Granados, an 11th-grader from Western High, will have her 10-minute long play performed by the Livestock Players as part of the Greensboro Fringe Festival. Granados' play was selected by the Pegasus Project, a program designed to teach high school students the art of playwriting. Dudley High Holds Civil Rights Panel, 3 p.m. (The International Civil Rights Center and Museum, 134 S. Elm St., Greensboro) - Dudley alumni who participated in the 1960 sit-ins at F.W. Woolworth's will discuss the hopes of their parents, their fears, and how they summoned the strength to face adversity during a panel discussion on Saturday. Guilford Parent Academy Offers Tips on Paying for College, 2 - 4 p.m. (Greensboro Central Library, 219 N. Church St., Greensboro) - Parents and students are invited to attend a workshop about finding ways to pay for college. Monday, Feb. 13

Kickoff to Kindergarten Parent Day, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., 5 - 7 p.m. (220 N. Church St., Greensboro) - GCS and community partners are hosting a Kickoff to Kindergarten Parent Day for parents to learn more about preparing their rising kindergartners for school. It is a free event that will include information about bus transportation, afterschool programs, health services, PTAs and school curriculum. Central Region Holds Town Hall Meeting, 6 p.m. (Grimsley High, 801 Westover Terrace, Greensboro) - The Central Region will hold a town hall meeting at Grimsley High on Thursday.
