Several GCS schools will celebrate Global Youth Service Day between April 20 and 22. During this time, millions of children, teens and young adults, ages 5-25, will change the world by addressing critical issues including health, education, environment, hunger, poverty, disaster preparedness and response and human rights. Here are some of the projects planned.

· Allen Middle : Students at Allen have been collecting food during the month of April for Greensboro Urban Ministries. This week, students in social studies classes are making posters about the food drive and how important it is to support local organizations. The posters will be placed around the school.

· Frazier Elementary : Students will be donating plastic bottles for the recycling program at Kathleen Clay Library on Saturday.

· Doris Henderson Newcomers School/Northwest Middle : On Friday, April 27, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., students from Doris Henderson Newcomers School will visit Northwest Middle sixth-grade students for an assembly on service-learning. The two schools have been in a service-learning partnership for nearly two years.

· Grimsley High : The Dustin's Greenhouse/The Human Experience Club will be visiting the Avalon Center, affiliated with the Center for New North Carolinians, on Friday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The Grimsley students will be engaged in a Dr. Seuss-themed cultural exchange with the refugee students and will be serving food, playing games, reading books to the younger students and participating in arts and crafts activities.

· Dudley High: The Dudley Student Government Association, in collaboration with the PTSA and Class of 1976, is planning a Campus Clean Up and Beautification Day at 9 a.m. Saturday to plant flowers and trees and to freshen the existing flower beds. The school will also participate in The City of Greensboro recycling fair.

· Andrews High: Andrews students willhost a Green Day - Campus Cleanup on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school.

· Sedalia Elementary: O n April 12, the school held its first Beautification and Recycling/Green Day, with help from employees at Kohl's Department Store. Volunteers picked up trash and recyclable materials from the environment. Sedalia students have also made recycling commercials to help others learn about the importance of recycling and protecting the environment.

· Hampton Elementary University Partnership Magnet: S tudents will be visiting North Carolina A&T State University on Friday, April 20, to explore different majors and careers. Hampton students will interview college students to find out how they serve the community through their studies and will develop brochures to share with the community on specific majors and careers.

· Falkener Elementary: Falkener will be recycling items that were collected by students at Price Park. A celebration will be held, and the school plans to use money received from recycling to support the school garden.
