I am honored to serve as principal of Jefferson Elementary School.  This school is beautifully diverse and has a tradition of excellence.  Jefferson is the school where children come to learn.  We strive to make this is a place where children enjoy learning; instruction is rigorous and instructional time is a priority.  At the celebration of Excellence on September 20, 2012, Jefferson was named one of the sixteen most improved schools in Guilford County.  This accomplishment was based on the improvement of students on EOG scores for 2011-2012.  We look forward to building on this accomplishment as we implement Common Core Curriculum in our instruction in 2012-2013.

Before coming to Jefferson in 2011-2012, I served as principal at Gibsonville Elementary.  While there, in 2009-2010 Gibsonville was recognized as one of Guilford County’s 16 Most Improved Schools.  We moved our student performance composite from a School of Progress to a School of Distinction with over 80% of our students earning proficiency on our performance composite.  I also served as principal at Brooks Global, assistant principal at Grimsley High School as well as school counselor.  I am a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill in Elementary Education and received my Masters of School Administration from UNCG. I am a former teacher of Academically Gifted students and former School Counselor. I am committed to providing a quality educational experience for the students I serve. We, the staff of Jefferson Elementary, look forward to all we can do to make Jefferson Elementary a NC School of Distinction and continue to be a school you are proud for your child to attend.

Sincerely,

Cathy Batts
