Biography

Dr. Melissa Nixon began her career in education here in Guilford County Schools, graduating from Eastern Guilford High School some years ago. After being awarded a NC Teaching Fellows Scholarship, she attended UNCG and received a B.S. in Elementary Education. Dr. Nixon taught elementary children for several years before receiving the Principal Fellows scholarship and again attending UNCG to receive her Master of School Administration degree. She later returned once again to UNCG for her Educational Specialist degree and finally for her Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Dr. Nixon has served as Assistant Principal at Jesse Wharton Elementary School, Principal of Foust Elementary School, and Principal of Sternberger Elementary School prior to her appointment to Irving Park Elementary School. Dr. Nixon is married and has two children and enjoys spending time reading and playing with her children in her spare time.
