Introducing Madison Principal, Dr. Trina Bethea |
Parent Message 5/11/13 Greetings this is a message from Dr. Bethea, Principal of Madison Elementary School. Next Week is Spirit Week: Students should check the flyers throughout the school and listen to the announcements each morning. Monday is Neon d\Day. This year, students in third, fourth and fifth grades will take the traditional End-of-Grade, or EOG, tests in English Language Arts and math. Fifth-graders will also take a science EOG. Our EOGs will take place May 22 for 5th grade Science, May 29 for Reading and May 30 for Math. This year, Guilford County Schools, as well as all other districts in North Carolina, moved to the new Common Core standards. That means our teachers – and all our staff – have been working to develop new lessons that go along with the new standards. Since the tests are new, we won’t have the final scores until October. Because of the delay, the scores will not be used in the decision to promote students to the next grade. However, the state will look at the scores to help measure how effective our teachers are, so all students should do their best. Parents can provide input on their child's classroom assignment for next school year by writing a letter to Dr. Bethea by June 7, 2013. Parents cannot request a specific teacher. However, their input will be considered in the placement process. Please know that the final decision will be made by school personnel in order to achieve the best possible situation for each of our students. Attention 5th grade parents – This is a reminder that before your child can enter middle school next year, he or she is required to get an updated Tdap vaccine. Since this is a requirement for middle school, we encourage you to have your child vaccinated now or during the summer before school starts back in August. The health department will have a Tdap station set up at the Parent Academy’s Family Fun Day on May 18th. All library books are due in the media center by Friday, May 24. So, clean out your closets, look in the car and under the bed and don’t forget to check Grandma’s house. We appreciate your help as we finalize our inventory for the 2012-2013 academic year. ********* Parents, at this time we are currently enrolling Kindergarten students for the 2013/2014 school year. If you have a child that is 5 or will be before August 31, 2013, please see our front office staff for a kindergarten packet. Parents, please remember that if your child arrives to school after 7:45, you must bring them in and sign them in. Please do not drop students off in the front of the building. Parents, if your child is absent you must send a note in within 3 days of the absence for it to be excused. Also, parents, if your child will have a change in the way they normally go home, we must have a note in writing first thing in the morning. Please do not call the school for a transportation change. We MUST have them in writing and will not be able to honor any transportation changes without proper notification. This is strictly for your child’s safety. Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this very important matter.
Please mark your calendar for the upcoming events: Next Week is Spirit Week: Students should check the flyers throughout the school and listen to the announcements each morning. Monday is Neon Day. Thank you for another GREAT week at Madison. That’s it for now! As always, thank you for being our partner in education! |
