  A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL DR. CLARIDA

Dear Superstars,

I have really enjoyed being the principal of this great school.  I have been able to develop great relationships with the parents, students, staff and community.  This is truly a great community.  We have the best students in Guilford County.

Our school made high gains during the 2008-2009 school year.  As you know we did not make AYP, but we have so much to celebrate.  We had 27 subgroups which is more than an elementary school and more than most middle and high schools.  Our school is also 80% Free/Reduced lunch.  We only missed one subgroup which was our Exceptional Children and this caused us to miss AYP.  As you know AYP is an all or nothing system.  We also made expected and high growth.  Our students grew as a whole a lot of points.  For example, Reading- 15.5 points, Math-17.1 and our composite score 16.3 points.  We were one of 11 schools out of 120 to make double digit gains in both Reading and Math. 

We will continue to provide the best education possible to your child.  We enjoy working with the students at Sumner.  Our number one goal is to continue to look for ways to improve academics while building positive relationships with our community.  Please stay connected to a winning team "Go Superstars".
