Community: Strengths of A. Laurin Welborn Academy of Science and Technology are a long record of support, pride, and community history since Welborn was opened as Northeast Junior High in 1959-1960. The name was changed in 1993 with the merger of Guilford County Schools and honors longtime High Point Board of Education member A. Laurin Welborn. Welborn Academy serves the City of High Point.

School: Welborn Academy serves 552 students and has over 55 certified staff members. We are a Responsible Discipline School, as well as a Positive Behavioral School. As such, we encourage community, faculty, and staff collaboration to make Welborn Academy a child-centered school.

Achievements: • Nationally Recognized Comer School with emphasis on establishing partnerships with the community to build strong educational foundations • Staff trained in Paideia seminar method, Positive Behavior training, Responsible Discipline and Quest Technology in Teaching. • Strong history of athletic programs including 2004-2005 & 2008-2009 Conference Football Champions and a full range of excellent athletic opportunities

Office Hours: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm

Instructional Day: 8:30 am to 3:40 pm

Students arriving before 8:30 should report directly to the gym for 7th and 8th graders and the auditorium for 6th grade. Parents should avoid dropping students off before 8:10. Staff members will be in the gym and auditorium to supervise at 8:10. Buses arrive between 8:20 and 8:30.
