  • Encourage your child to get a good night’s sleep before the test.
  • Provide your child with a nutritious breakfast before the test.
  • Minimize outside activities during the week of testing. This will help reduce stress at home.
  • Set your alarm a little early each morning and make your time together at home pleasant.

This year, for the first time, some students will also take Common Exams.
Common Exams were previously called Measures of Student Learning, or MSLs, and measure a student’s knowledge in courses that are not covered by EOGs.

The state will also use these exams to help determine how well our teachers are doing. Teachers will be evaluated in one of the Common Exam areas, depending on scheduling. This means students may take a Common Exam in science, social studies, or both.

·Our Common Exams were given April 30 and May 1.

·The tests were 90 minutes long and include multiple-choice and written responses.

In middle school, the Common Exams will count as one test grade toward a student’s final grade in the class. The scores will also be used by the state to help measure a teacher’s effectiveness
