Welcome to a great year of Physical Education at Northern Elementary. Please have your child wear tennis shoes on their PE days. It is for their safety and the safety of the other children.

Physical Education classes at Northern Elementary are based on the NC. Standard Course of Study. Students are introduced to sport skills, jump rope, cooperative games, fitness activities, dance, gymnastics, movement awareness, body and space awareness during Physical Education. Character Education is also a main focus of our class. Stressed during class are cooperation, teamwork, good sportsmanship, sharing, kindness and respect.

The state of NC has implemented a curriculum called SPARK(sports, play and active recreation for kids) to accompany our current standard course of study. The SPARK curriculum is a specialized, research-based physical education program which emphasizes; increased moderate to vigorous physical activity in students; fitness achievement; academic achievement; sports skills development; and enjoyment of physical education.
