Ni hao! Hola! Jambo! Sabaidee! Ohayoou gozaimasu! Guten tag! In other words, hello! Welcome to Mr. Rice and Mrs. Pratt's Pre-K! We look forward to working with you and your child this year. Our school, Northwood Elementary, was approved in the summer of 2010 to be an International Baccalaureate school. For us, this means that we will approach things we learn from the perspective of a global citizen. Our learning will rely heavily on the inquiry of the children as they explore and construct knowledge that is useful to them. We will learn from one another and work to be responsible and reflective learners who value the rights and opinions of others. While we all have our differences in regards to cultures, customs, learning styles, etc., we will strive to create a community of learners this year that does our part to make the world a better place. Since your child will be spending a significant portion of his/her waking hours with us, we want to let you know a little about us. Clyde Rice is originally from Caswell County, but came to Greensboro to attend UNCG. He has worked with Guilford County Schools since 1992. The majority of his career has been spent in kindergarten and pre-kindergarten. He has a bachelor's degree in elementary education with additional credentials in birth through kindergarten and academically gifted students. He also has National Board certification in the category of "Early Childhood - Generalist." He finished his master's degree in reading education in the summer of 2011 and earned certification in ESOL in November 2011. Barbara Pratt is a native of Guilford County and she has worked with Guilford County Schools since 2000. She has spent the entire time in pre-kindergarten. She is an avid Carolina Tarheels fan. She enjoys spending time with her three children and participating with them in their school functions and extracurricular activities. She has two daughters in high school and one son in college. We are beginning our eleventh year of working together here at Northwood Elementary. We can't wait to start another one and learn a little about you and your child during our year together! |
