My name is Kelly Chriscoe.  I am very excited to have your child in my 5th grade classroom.  Your child will learn new and exciting things during the course of this year.  I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure their continued success.  Parent participation is so very important to that success.  I hope we can work together to make this a very rewarding and productive year.   I will have many opportunities for you to volunteer in the classroom whether it be reading with a child or the class, helping with class parties and/or one-on-one help with a student.  Be thinking about ways you might like to volunteer.

I would like to share some information about myself. I have been teaching 15 years in the public school system and 1 year in the private sector.  This is my sixth year at Brightwood. I received my teaching degree from UNCG and are working on my Master’s degree in Administration.  I love teaching and seeing my students grow and achieve academic success.

Again, I look forward to working with your child this year.  Let's work together to ensure your child makes exceptional growth and has a very successful year.    Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year.

TEACHER TIP:  As you begin to buy school supplies for the beginning of the year, please be mindful that students begin to run low around Christmas.  It is extremely important they have materials on hand when they begin to run out.  It is a great idea to buy a few extra  notebooks and pencils to keep on hand for the remainder of the year.

MATH

We will use SOLVE to help us answer math word problems this year in 5th grade.

S- Study the problem. What is it asking you to find?

O- Organize the facts. Identify what is important information and eliminate unnecessary information.

L- Line up a plan. How are you going to solve this?

V- Verify your plan with action. Work it out! Show your work.

E- Examine your results. Does your answer make sense? Check over your work and choose the best answer
