Mission

The mission of the Rankin Elementary School library media program is to provide a nurturing place that fosters a passion for reading and effective use of ideas and information.

Goals

Our goals are consistent with those from the Guilford County Schools Library Media Department:

  • To teach information literacy through learning activities integrated into Common Core Standards
  • To collaborate with teachers to use appropriate resources
  • To instruct students and staff in the effective use of the Media Center and its resources
  • To provide resources that enrich and support the instructional program from diverse and multicultural interests, experiences and viewpoints

What We Have

The following equipment resides in the Media Center with additional items on loan to classroom teachers:

  • In excess of 14,000 books and reference materials
  • Several current and past issues of children’s and professional magazines
  • Videos and books on tape
  • Networked computers

When You Can Have It

Materials may be borrowed by students and staff and are subject to recall:

  • The Media Center is open during regular school days from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm
  • Students may checkout items throughout the day with a pass from their classroom teacher. Kindergarten through First Grade may check out 1 book at a time.  Students in Grades 2 and 3 may check out 2 books. Three books sets the limit for checking out books in Grades 4 and 5
  • Books are due in 2 weeks and may be renewed. If any book is overdue, no more books may be checked out until the overdue items are returned
  • There is no limit to the number of items for teachers to checkout and use in their classrooms
